NAC transcription factors as key regulators in stress responses

Abstract

The NAC transcription factors are well studied proteins and characterized in numerous plant species. NAC genes altered various functions during plant evolution, such as the regulation either in developmental processes or in abiotic and biotic stress responses. These proteins have a role in senescence, programmed cell death, as well as nutrient remobilization into the developing endosperm. NAC genes may be used for improving nutritional value of a low quality variety, may increase resistance to pathogens, or advances tolerance to environmental changes. Our study focused on pathogen triggered response of a susceptible grapevine. We identified a NAC transcription factor in the response, which may be a key regulator in the defense reaction.
