Self-Assembly of C-Methyl Calix[4]resorcinarene with 1,2-Bis(5'-pyrimidyl)ethene

Abstract

The self-assembly of the tetradentate ligand 1,2-bis(5‘-pyrimidyl)ethene with C-methyl calix[4]resorcinarene is reported. The structures of two different three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded networks formed on self-assembly are presented. One of these structures contains ligand-bridged resorcinarenes with a "chain-link" capsule motif. The second structure has linear ribbons of resorcinarenes interlocked by intricate hydrogen-bonding patterns that include methanol, water, and the bipyrimidine ligand.
