Abstract

A survey of the vascular flora of Roaring River State Park, Barry County, Missouri, was made between March 1979 and the fall of 1980. An annotated checklist of 667 taxa representing 107 families, 373 genera, and 153 tentative Barry County records is included. Ten plant communities are described based upon minimal sampling data and subjective field observations. Fifteen community sites were sampled for data on relative frequency, density, and dominance. The different communities represent various successional stages in the Oak-Hickory Forest Region and contain a number of endemics, disjuncts, and floristic affinities to other geographic areas. Some rare and endangered species also occur here. The occurrence of the flora within this area of southwestern Missouri is discussed in relation to the climate, topography, geology, soils, and past vegetational history.
