Abstract

The purpose of this study is to document the directorial process used to create a production of David Mamet's Sexual Perversity in Chicago. To achieve this goal, this study wll entail: an investigation of the author and his body of work; a collaborative analysis of the playscript drawn from Frances Hodge's text, Play Directing: Analysis, Communication, and Style, and George Black's Contemporary Stage Directing: a discussion of the directorial vision that was created as a result of interpreting the information obtained from the textual analysis; and a evaluation of the success of the communication process that was used to employ the directorial vision in the production of the play. This study wlll demonstrate that the communication of a comprehensive textual analysis to everyone involved in the production process leads to the creation of an artistically unified production of the play.
