Abstract
Selecting a musical scene that is appropriate for high school students to perform in a contest or festival setting is a challenging task. The festival or audition guidelines are often restrictive and necessitate finding a scene that is appropriate with respect to gender, character age, and language. Searching the available literature is time-consuming and requires availability to an extensive musical library which includes vocal scores, cast recordings, and librettos. This research project has combined facts from these resources in addition to publishers' catalogues and representative musical theatre research to provide directors and high school students with suggested musical scenes in their respective categories. Also included are sources for librettos and musical arrangements.
