Snared storybook readings with children who have little or no functional speech: A language intervention tool for students who use augmentative and alternative communication
Abstract
The article provides information on how to optimise the shared storybook reading interactions of children with little or no functional speech in order to facilitate their language development. I Information on the benefits of early literacy experiences and shared storybook reading are reviewed as well as information on the shared storybook reading experiences of children who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) because they have little or no functional speech. In addition, the article reviews the current research on the use of shared storybook readings as a language intervention tool for children who use AAC. Finally, suggestions for classroom implementation of shared storybook readings for children who use AAC are provided.
