Title
Grant writing: Linking the social work program with the community
Abstract
Social work has an uneven commitment to community practice. As a result, there are very few educational tools for students to learn about interventions with that target system. This paper discusses the use of a grant writing assignment in the context of course content on communities and organizations that accomplishes several important educational objectives, including: (a) linking the social work program to community agencies beyond practi- cums; (b) requiring students to become knowledgeable about the community and its human service delivery system; (c) teaching students a useful technical skill; and (d) reinforcing the generalist nature of social work practice processes.
