The article focuses on Catholic and Indigenous resistance to the Federal Indian Boarding Schools with Native Americans they had defeated and imprisoned on reservations. It mentions scholars have demonstrated the importance of imagery related to Indian assimilation in the campaign to assimilate immigrants and Catholic Church found itself suddenly and almost completely cut out of the business of Indian assimilation. It also mentions sudden redirection of Congressional funds for Indian education.
