Title

Model United Nations: Out of the Closet and Into the Classroom

Abstract

Model United Nations programs have become quite prevalent throughout the United States. However, there appears to be a clear distinction between people who "do" Model UN and those who do not. Only those with specific interest in the United Nations or international organizations in general teach Model UN. Even among those who teach Model United Nations, it appears that this is something one teaches either separate from class or within its own unique class context. Rarely is Model UN something one "does" within a typical international relations classroom experience. This paper will show that not only can model UN fit into the regular international relations class, but that it should. With model UN techniques, students not only enjoy learning about international relations more, but they appear to have a better grasp of international relations concepts and theories.
