Elastic anomalies near the magnetic transition in Cd1-xMnxTe
Abstract
From the velocity of utlrasonic waves with frequencies between 10 and 30 MHz we find that the C44 elastic constant of Cd0.55Mn0.45Te goes through a wide minimum whose lowest point is near the spin glass transition temperature. The minimum depends on the value and the first and second strain derivatives of the magnetic energy of the Mn ions.
