The Quest for Chain-Link Hydrogen-Bonded Capsules: Self-Assembly of C-Methyl Calix[4]resorcinarene with 1,2-Bis(5'-pyrimidyl)ethyne
Abstract
The self-assembly of the tetradentate ligand 1,2-bis(5‘-pyrimidyl)ethyne with C-methyl calix[4]resorcinarene under a variety of conditions is reported. The structures of two different three-dimensional hydrogen bonded networks formed on self-assembly are presented. One structure contains ligand-bridged resorcinarenes with a "chain-link" capsule motif. The other structure is a three-dimensional network of cross-linked stacked resorcinarenes.
