Cultural Opportunities with Children with Disabilities

Abstract

Supporting children with differences is important and child therapists with training in child-centered play therapy are uniquely positioned to support children with disabilities and advocate on their behalf in school and community systems. In this chapter, we begin with a therapeutic vignette, and an overview of cultural considerations, then provide a rationale for child-centered play therapy and use of adapted materials. We conclude this chapter by providing information regarding how to work with families and systems.
