Abstract
The poems comprising this collection discuss themes of math and science, the constantly evolving and at times unflattering nature of humans dealing with emotions, the speaker's unique experience as a follower and practitioner of punk rock in her hometown of Branson, Missouri as a youth, and the ineffable truths that exist in the space between language and meaning. The introduction discusses and compares the poets Michael Palmer, Franz Wright, Mary Jo Bang and the ways that their respective theoretical frameworks influence the poems in this collection. The introduction draws parallels between the poems in the thesis and contemporary subgenres, subject matter, and varying methodologies of language and how they create meaning.
