Abstract
This thesis is comprised of five compositions, which is a collection of literary fiction that explores the form of the short story. The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate various methods of storytelling, exploring magical realism in "The Floating,” absurdism in "Lot 17,” realism in "Fatness”, southern gothic in "Pidgin”. The story "Dancing Boy at the Intersection” experiments in form and point of view. Combined, these stories offer various ways for readers to participate in short fiction.
