Abstract

Wycliffe Bible Translators is a nonprofit, nonsectarian, voluntary missionary organization. Its purpose is to provide written translations of the Bible into the languages of cultures which have no written language. To support this effort, the organization engages in a variety of promotional activities. Part of this program is the use of voluntary representatives. This study examines the motives, beliefs, perceived audiences, public relations functions, materials and record keeping, and demographic characteristics of Wycliffe's representatives. This report describes the promotional program of Wycliffe Bible Translators; additionally, it defines and justifies the survey instrument used; and it summarizes the results of the survey, and suggests important implications for Wycliffe's promotional program as well.
