Abstract
The increase in interest of society to resotre the past has caused many communities to take an interest in preserving its old buildings, particularly its theatres. The Gillioz Theatre in Springfield, Missouri is one such project. The movie palace theatre opened in 1926, closed in 1980, has begun to be restored to its former splendor. A project of this scope should include careful documentation to provide an example to other communities as well as satisfy a community's need to claim its own history. The theatre lacks a formal record of its history and of the renovation it is currently undergoing. Taking a historiographical approach, numerous news articles, the Gillioz Theatre's nomination to the National Register of Historic Places, restoration manuals and government documents will be compiled to present this documentation.
