Abstract

The purpose of this study is to trace the directorial process of producing Tina Howe's Painting Churches and applying the theories of John Kirk and Ralph Bellas in their book, The Art of Directing, to the analysis and production phase. Sponsored by the Theatre and Dance Department, the play was produced as a practical, creative thesis. The thesis is divided into six chapters detailing the different steps in preparing the production with the final chapter being a self-evaluation of the finished work.
