Abstract

The purpose of this thesis project was to produce a series of audiotaped discussions with people whose work preoccupation centers on the English language and its use; and to edit these for broadcast use over an educational radio station, with the intent of making the public more aware of the many ramifications to which the study of language may lead. The content of each tape focuses on some particular aspect of the language, or reveals how language changes have a sociological impact on our culture. Of the four tapes comprising the series, three are fifteen minutes in length, while the fourth is a half-hour. In three cases, the writer conducted the interviews; in the fourth, a roundtable discussion, the writer's role was that of moderator.
