Abstract
This thesis is a combination of a memoir and a critical introduction about issues related to understanding the self through the use of metanarratives. My interest in creative writing nonfiction was piqued by a class I took where we studied memoir as part of a special topics course on Creative Writing Nonfiction. Our main task was to read severalmemoirs and articles about memoir as part of our study of creative writing nonfiction, which culminated in the creation of and sharing in a workshop fashion each others'memoirs. The original draft of this thesis was the result of that class.
