Abstract
The synthesis of a dipyridyl ligand is described. The ligand was designed to include two pyrene rings which, upon coordination of silver(I) cation, were expected to π-stack. Confirmation of the π-stacking was accomplished using analysis of NMR spectra recorded during titration of silver(I) trifluoromethanesulfonate into a solution of the ligand. Further confirmation of π-stacking of the pyrene rings was obtained by attaining and comparing UV-vis spectrum and fluorescence emission spectrum of ligand and ligand-silver(I) complex.
