Abstract
This is a three-movement work for wind ensemble composed using various styles and techniques. The goal was to use quality contemporary band literature as the source for compositional techniques and inspiration. The first movement, Dances and Celebrations, introduces the main theme in which most of the symphony’s material comes from. This movement is very celebratory in nature and mainly used a pitch collection from the octatonic scale. The second movement, Contemplations, is a more abstract movement using a pitch collection and intervallic relationships to create harmony and melody. The third movement, March and Chorale, passes between the march and chorale. The final section brings back motives and harmonies from the entire work and finishes with a flourish to a major cord.
