Abstract
Hepoxilins are a group of compounds which are biologically active in the body. One of the hepoxilins is vital in the release of insulin. The sites that metabolism chemistry of the hepoxilin molecule takes place will be investigated using a model compound. The model compound, 4(E)-trans-6,7-epoxy-2,2-dimethly-4-decen-3-one, will be synthesized using a Witting reaction. Molecular orbital calculations will be performed to predict reactivity, infrared spectra, and optimized structure. The phosphoranylidene used will by synthesized by reacting 1-bromo-3,3-dimethyl-2-butanone with triphenylphosphine. Then the reactive sities will be tested using phenyllithium.
