Abstract
A passive mouse protection assay has been developed to measure serum antibody induced by S. equi in horses. This assay was used to measure naturally acquired S. equi antibody, antibody induced by experimental challenge with virulent S. equi, and antibody stimulated by vaccination with S. equi. M protein preparations. This passive mouse protection assay was then used in an opsonization inhibition assay developed to measure the M protein antigen of S. equi. Various antigen preparations were tested using this assay to study the effectiveness of different M protein extraction procedure.
