Taking a Chance on Harp Therapy at Missouri State University
Abstract
In January of 2008, the Department of Music at Missouri State University offered a new course, Introduction to Music and Healing. This three-hour per week class provides an introduction to the history and current practices in the filed o therapeutic music, as an integrated service-learning class. In addition to completing classroom assignments, students learn to play the therapeutic harp and develop a portfolio including a reflection journal with time log, based upon the therapeutic harp music they provide in a local hospital and/or hospice.
