From English Language Arts Teacher to Literacy Expert: Reimagining Our Roles

Abstract

This article focuses on the collaboration of English language arts (ELA) teachers and content-area teachers with the implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in the U.S. It states that CCSS provide opportunities for ELA teachers to emerge as literacy experts in their schools and beyond. It further discusses effective literacy professional development, honoring the literacy expertise of non-ELA teachers and disciplinary vocabulary.
