Abstract
The objective of this thesis is to combine my undergraduate studies in communications and journalism, my subsequent work experience as a newspaper reporter, and my graduate-level creative writing skills to produce a collection of creative nonfiction pieces which focus on several significant events in my life: my reaction to seeing a dead African man hanging from a tower, my relationship with my grandfather following the announcement of my engagement, and the quirky "story behind the story” of my encounter with a woman who called herself "Goat Lady.” For this collection, I utilized the creative writing styles of essay, memoir, and literary journalism. Each piece is a first-person narrative.
